The Southport Police Department is currently seeking interested and qualified candidates for the positions of Sworn Desk Officer, Public Assistance Officer, and Lobby Host. These are UNPAID volunteer positions.

Sworn Desk Officers: Handle a wide variety of tasks, from gun permit applications, employment finger printing, to answering phone calls and taking non-emergency police reports via phone and walk-ins. This position is responsible for station security. This position requires previous civilian or military law enforcement experience or to have successfully completed or ability to complete the ILEA state required 40 hour class.

Public Assistance Officer: Also handles a variety of tasks, from gun permit applications, employment finger printing, to answering phone calls and taking non-emergency police reports via phone and walk-ins. Has ability to access law enforcement data bases for completion of reports and assignments. This is not a sworn police officer position.

Lobby Host: Assists in greeting individuals as they arrive in the station and help to determine their need for police services. They will also complete employment fingerprinting, answer phone calls, and assist with general office administrative functions.
